The production of 11 million washing machines was not achieved overnight.
In this article, we would like to introduce the history of Sharp Philippines through the ceremony.
History of Sharp Philippines
Sharp established its Philippine subsidiary 43 years ago, in 1982. Five years later, in 1987, Sharp began producing washing machines in the Philippines. We achieved the production of 1 million units in 1995 and 5 million units in 2006. Alongside the expansion of washing machine production, we also started producing CRT TVs, LCD TVs, and Karaoke machines in the Philippines. Currently, most of the washing machines sold in the Philippines are produced locally, making it the most produced and sold product at this base.
One reason Sharp has been able to continue production in the Philippines is the development of local-fit products, as mentioned by Komori at the ceremony.

Development of Local-Fit Products to Meet Filipino Needs

The product introduced as the 11 millionth washing machine in the ceremony image is a local-fit product designed specifically for Filipino customers. It comes in single-tub and twin-tub models. Most parts are made of plastic, making it rust-proof. The lid can be used even when removed, and it is rat-proof based to prevent rats from entering and nesting inside. Despite its simplicity, it is designed to meet the needs of the Filipino.
Achieving “11 million units of production was made possible by the continuous efforts of our production and sales teams, as well as the support of our valued dealers and customers.”
Prior to the ceremony, Sharp held a contest titled “Find the Oldest Sharp Washing Machine,” where customers who have been using the oldest Sharp washing machines were awarded. The contest received over 100 entries, where washing machine being used for over 30 years were found. Each winner shared their stories of their long-term use, unwavering reliability, and durability of Sharp’s washing machines.

Closing the ceremony, Kito concluded, “Sharp will continue to strive to enhance the daily lives of our customers in the Philippines by providing innovative home appliance solutions. We are committed to being a reliable partner in every household’s daily life and will continue to deliver satisfaction to our customers nationwide through our highly reliable Sharp products.”
Sharp will continue to work hard to ensure Sharp products play an active role in the lives of Filipino customers.
We hope that our products can greet you wherever you go around the world.
