On August 16th, Sharp (Taiwan) Electronics Corporation (STE) held a press conference in Taipei, Taiwan announcing AQUOS R3 smartphone for the Taiwan market.

AQUOS R3 is a flagship model released in Japan this May with advanced features such as IGZO LCD panel display and AI camera. For the first time, the model will be released outside of Japan.

In the press conference, AQUOS R3 was unveiled to the media handheld by models, walking down a runway like a fashion show. They demonstrated scenes of actual use, such as taking a selfie on the stage.

Also,  a special product display with see-through LCD was set up in the conference. The demo utilized the unique feature of see-through LCD display by playing an explanatory video with a gimmick that also reveals the actual products set behind the display.

From Sharp Corporation, Mr. Yoshihiro Hashimoto, Executive Managing Officer, Head of President Office and Head of ASEAN Business joined the conference and explained the significance of this product release, saying “Sharp aims to “Change the world with 8K+5G and AIoT” as business vision and technologies and know-hows required for realizing that vision, such as telecommunications, displays, AI and IoT, and etc. are installed in smartphones. To further develop such technologies, smartphone business must be expanded globally, and the release of AQUOS R3 is another step toward the goal.”

Also joining the conference from Sharp Corporation was Mr. Junichi Iwaki, General Manager of Mobile Communication BU in Sharp Corporation. He explained the smartphone business strategy and key features of AQUOS R3.

The release of AQUOS R3 follows the release of AQUOS zero last November in Taiwan, representing Sharp’s aim to develop our business based on our business vision worldwide.
