On May 10, Sharp Universal Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (SUT) held a press conference in Guangzhou, P.R. China to introduce its latest 8K developments, together with announcement of new home appliance lineups for the China market.

Yueh Way Sun, Head of TV business in China, represented SUT and introduced the outline of Sharp’s latest 8K+5G development along with the new 8K TV for the China market.

Executive Director and Head of Corporate Research & Development BU Mototaka Taneya introduced Sharp’s 8K+5G strategy centering the startup plan of Sharp 8K Lab in China. By applying 8K/4K technology to various fields, such as Industry 4.0, education, Internet of Vehicles, security, design, healthcare, and digital advertising, Sharp estimates the market of ultra high definition application will develop into a 5,000-billion-dollar industry by the 2020s. The Sharp 8K Lab in China is planned to be set up in Shenzhen in Q3 of FY2019, and Sharp will work in alignment with Telecom companies in China in order to produce 8K contents together.
