【New Executive Introduction】Mitsuru Tokuyama
May 29, 2026

My name is Mitsuru Tokuyama, Executive Officer and Chief Technical Officer (CTO).
I have been deeply involved in development and business operations, primarily in the MFP (Multifunction Peripheral) business throughout my career. In April this year, I assumed new roles as CTO as well as Deputy General Manager responsible for Business Development. I am committed to contributing to the further growth of Sharp by fully leveraging the experience I have accumulated over the years.
When I first joined Sharp, I was assigned to Nara site (Yamato-Koriyama) where I worked on the development of copiers. Ever since, copiers have evolved significantly—from analog monochrome machines to digital and color devices, and further into multifunction peripherals (MFP) equipped with fax, printer, and scanner capabilities. Throughout this evolution, members were constantly required to take on new technological challenges. Through these experiences, I naturally developed a positive mindset toward embracing new challenges, which I believe has had a major influence on my subsequent career.
There are two initiatives in my career that left a particularly strong impression on me. The first was participating as a product manager in a full model change of MFP. The second was the launch of COCORO OFFICE. Both were unprecedented challenges for me, and working together with many colleagues to shape these businesses became extremely valuable experiences.
As my responsibilities increased, one realization became especially clear: “There is less and less that one person alone can accomplish.” As my role evolved from staff member to section manager, department manager, and then division head, the number of challenges that could not be solved by individual effort continued to grow. What I learned through this process is the importance of thinking about how to act in order to maximize results as a team, while effectively leveraging the strengths of those around you.
I have experienced countless failures along the way. There were times when I worried so much that I could not sleep. However, in most cases, my policy is to get a good night’s rest, reset my mindset, and move forward the next day. I consider this ability to recover and keep going to be one of my personal strengths.
As CTO, my mission is to identify technologies that truly contribute to business and management, and to make sound judgments regarding their application. Sharp possesses many outstanding technologies, including those related to “next-generation communications.” By sharing such technologies across the entire company, creating opportunities for everyone to think about what they can do to contribute to Sharp’s growth, and working together beyond organizational boundaries, I aim to foster an environment in which synergies between technologies can emerge.
In addition, in order to advance the realization of new businesses, the Business Development function has been established as an organization reporting directly to the President. I concurrently serve as Deputy General Manager of this organization (with President and CEO Kawamura serving as General Manager). By transforming technology into business and creating tangible impact on management, I hope to fulfill a bridging role that connects technology and management.
To all employees, I encourage you to always keep in mind “how the work you are currently engaged in contributes to the growth of Sharp.”
Let us work together toward a bright and successful future for Sharp.

Work Philosophy
No matter how difficult a challenge may seem, I always try to begin with “YES.” I’ve always approached work with the mindset of doing it “for someone else.” I find fulfillment in supporting others from behind the scenes, and that sense of purpose drives my motivation. When starting to think with “YES for the customer,” the path will open up.
