Sharp U.S. Rallies Together After Hurricane Helene
January 30, 2025
This hurricane season, many of our U.S. colleagues were impacted by devastating storms, and in true Sharp spirit, the U.S. team came together to help. From organizing relief efforts to providing essential supplies, Sharp employees showed strength of unity during challenging times.
NC Donates Time to Organize Donations
Sharp Business Systems (SBS) North Carolina employees volunteered to help those affected by Hurricane Helene in Asheville through the United Way. They worked at the distribution site for ABCCM (Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries), where the team was divided into three groups to help receive and sort through donations. We are grateful to have our SBS NC branch help their community as the area recovers from the devastating storm.
SC Supports a Colleague
SBS South Carolina employees rallied to help our very own Allison Brackett, a single mom whose home suffered severe water damage after the hurricane. She had to leave immediately due to mold and flooding that made her home uninhabitable.
“I couldn’t even breathe in there,” said Allison, Senior Sales Executive. “My daughter and I, both asthmatics, had to leave immediately. It was overwhelming.”
Allison’s SBS family helped her find a new home, assisted with moving, donated items like a washer, dryer, and a dining room table, and collected funds to help her get on her feet again.
“I’ve never worked for a company like this before. The kindness and empathy they showed me were overwhelming,” Allison shared.
In addition to helping Allison, the team collected essential supplies for their local community.
Relief Efforts Led by SBS Midwest
The SBS Midwest team in Indianapolis, Chicago and Cincinnati, organized a “Food, Water, and Supplies” drive led by John Copeland and Paul Edson to support our affected colleagues in Tennessee, while Sabrina Heaton in Kingsport, TN managed the distribution of 42 cases of bottled water, 1,300 pounds of food/supplies and Visa gift cards.
Donations from Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC)
Sharp Electronics in the US also sent three pallets of essential care items, food and water to ease immediate survival needs. Employees in Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina were also given time off to volunteer with the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and local churches.
