On August 16 and 17, Sharp Corporation President and CEO Mr. Robert Wu visited the Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC) USA headquarters in Montvale NJ.

During a morning townhall meeting on the 16th, Mr. Wu shared his strategic vision for Sharp and how each business unit will impact the overall goals of the organization. SEC employees in Montvale then had the opportunity to ask Mr. Wu many questions, ranging from inquiries about his plans for business growth and the future of Sharp and AI to what he likes to do in his free time – walking and Netflix!

During the rest of the two-day visit, Mr. Wu spent time with Sharp associates and executives alike, even taking a few moments to join a leadership training class that was being held in the offices. Mr. Wu was especially interested in SEC’s Human Resources Program that supported employee self development by supporting part of their tuition. Additionally, he was impressed by the system that enables the visualization of sales status on one dashboard. Mr. Wu stated that such advanced programs in HR and IT should be brought back to headquarters for implementation consideration across the company.

On the second day of his visit, Mr. Wu led the ribbon cutting for the opening of the new Montvale kitchen showroom! The new showroom sports the layout of an exclusively Sharp kitchen, complete with Sharp appliances, such as microwaves, refrigerators, cooktop stoves and ovens.

During his visit, Mr.Wu also took time to visit Best Buy and Lowe’s, two large national retailers in electronics and home appliances, to observe the market status in the U.S.

Many Montvale employees remarked how they were grateful to Mr. Wu for taking the time to visit Sharp in the US. Said one employee: “His visit goes a long way towards helping us realize how much the U.S. is an important part of the greater organization.”

This was the first time in over 15 years that the head of Sharp visited SEC headquarters. Going forward, Mr. Wu promises to make these visits much more frequent.
